See the problem with large caliber guns and revolvers is that you can tell whether or not it is loaded

But then black bullets are "cop killers"... you can shoot through 100 cops with those!

The grip safety can not pulled out you will lock it up. You will damage the grip safety plus the sear and or firing pin safety. This is per the factory. I have now documented SIX being sent back loaded. They told me I didn't look that hard.

The ones being returned are from T&E and recurits (least amount) Most are being returned from ranges that rent guns. Which says people not famalier with grips safeties are the ones locking them. Back to my original post. BE CAREFUL! make sure the grip safety is FULLY depressed when you load it.

For those that think this is a "story". You must not have the contacts to find out the truth.

I'm sure he isn't. IF he was, he would not have posted his cmments. You can't hide the facts.

Yet another reason not to buy one of them new-fangled plastic guns, those that stray from the path of John Moses Browning are flirting with dangerous issues...

"Seeing the malfunctions and the confusion of men, the lord of the underworld did see an opportunity to further ensnare man and didst bring forth pistols made of plastic, whose form was such that they looked and felt like a brick, yet the eyes of man being clouded, they were consumed by the plastic pistol and did buy vast quantities of them."

***********

Seriously, this sounds like a fatal-flaw in the current configuration of XD pistols, hope Springfield gets this figured out. I own many fine guns made by Springfield, this is a black-eye for Springfield.

That can be corrected and solutions are known.

I know who that is on this list. He shouldn't have listed all of his guns, it took me 5 seconds to figure him out. Wonderful!

Looks like Sam is getting some back-up. This was just posted:

thanks for the tip and the information! That is why i love this and other similar forums.... otherwise, we are not prepared for the inevitiable circumstance that is bound to happen. Being a cop and LE trainer, i can definitely see the potential for this occurring in recruit academies due to the inexperience of the "rookie" cop. When some of them show up to the range, it is the first time they have ever held a pistol and they hold it like..... well..... a girl! No offense to the ladies in this forum but the majority of malfunctions are shooter induced and the female seems to usually have the weaker grip! I'm not picking on anyone, this is just a fact that I have seen! With that said I have seen some guys, who pick up a gun by "pinching" the grip between thumb and forefinger, like they are picking up a piece of paper!!! Yikes!

The officer that locked up the first gun was a female officer. She was not use to a grip safety. Most gun sent back to springfield are from gun rental ranges. Once again new shooters.

Hi guys!

My name is Don, and I own almost too many of the HS2000 and XD pistols..well 6 for now. I am also one of the guys on the XD forum that is trying to jam his own pistol in the fashioned reported, because I am all about fashion. Tongue-in-cheek aside, there are several of us trying to get a jam of sorts, since that helps the knowledge base on our forum. We have often in the past set out to create failures so that we can talk members thru the solution rather than send to the factory. I have many times fabbed up the simpler parts to send out to members if they have lost their, and sometimes just on a whim because I was curious to see if I could do it. I have figured out a few of the springs so that SA is not the sole source of them for repairs or replacement. I am also the developer of many of the after market guide rods for this pistol, so while not formally a gunsmith I am pretty familiar with the operation. Basically I like to tinker and am willing to take a chance on my pistol that I can fix what I ruin, and if not I will pay Springfield to fix it since it is a self inflicted wound rather than their failure.

So some of the info that is not clear so far:
Is the slide fully in battery?

Is there even 1/8"movement on the slide? If so how much approximate total? If any movement is possible you may be able to remove the striker spring and remove all tension in that area.

If you do try remove the grip safety pin and it is under some pressure it will will make your drift drop down a bit, expect to try to force it back into alignment to continue to drive out the pin. You may need to have the frame or slide in a vice to get enough leverage.

Is the silver colored striker cocked indicator sticking out of the black ring on the back of the slide?

Or tell me what you want me to attempt and I'll probably give it a try!

Good to see you here Don, welcome! I just talked to the author of this thread and he will be checking back in a little later on hopefully. I'm happy to see you are objective and understand that this is not about dumping on the XD.
