Thanks choochboost!
You are on the XD forum as well so maybe you can keep us in sync if there seems so be a serious lapse in replies. I will pay attention here as long as it seems relevent then fade away as time goes on. But I think that I have my profile set up right that you guys can email me in the future to get info or help even if I do not haunt this forum.

Actually, I was hoping to pass the buck to you!
I'll see what I can do, I just don't want people asking me too many questions on XD Talk since I'm not the guy who was able to duplicate what happened.

If that means what I think, then:
http://www.xd-hs2000.com/disassembly/disassembly.html
will link you to what you need. I think that much of this was before Springfield was importing, but whether you have a HS2000 or a XD the information is the same and accurate.

OK, I get it! I will follow this for a time until it seems to go dead or is resolved. Then months later if a reply is made here I will not be following up on it. So those people people will need to email me direct to get some follow up as I will most likely not continue to follow up up here. I am in Washington state, so California CCW will not be something I will keep up on. I did set up my profile to email me with replies, so maybe it will work out, but if not the members should email me direct with questions if there seems to be a gap in replies. But ultimately I would like to see a resolution here or a link to a resolution.
Damn, you guys have got me really curious now!

Hi guys!
My name is Don, and I own almost too many of the HS2000 and XD pistols..well 6 for now. I am also one of the guys on the XD forum that is trying to jam his own pistol in the fashioned reported, because I am all about fashion. Tongue-in-cheek aside, there are several of us trying to get a jam of sorts, since that helps the knowledge base on our forum. We have often in the past set out to create failures so that we can talk members thru the solution rather than send to the factory. I have many times fabbed up the simpler parts to send out to members if they have lost their, and sometimes just on a whim because I was curious to see if I could do it. I have figured out a few of the springs so that SA is not the sole source of them for repairs or replacement. I am also the developer of many of the after market guide rods for this pistol, so while not formally a gunsmith I am pretty familiar with the operation. Basically I like to tinker and am willing to take a chance on my pistol that I can fix what I ruin, and if not I will pay Springfield to fix it since it is a self inflicted wound rather than their failure.
So some of the info that is not clear so far:
Is the slide fully in battery?
Is there even 1/8"movement on the slide? If so how much approximate total? If any movement is possible you may be able to remove the striker spring and remove all tension in that area.
If you do try remove the grip safety pin and it is under some pressure it will will make your drift drop down a bit, expect to try to force it back into alignment to continue to drive out the pin. You may need to have the frame or slide in a vice to get enough leverage.
Is the silver colored striker cocked indicator sticking out of the black ring on the back of the slide?
Or tell me what you want me to attempt and I'll probably give it a try!
Don,
First, Welcome to the forum. I know you have no need for a forum like this in Washington.
The movement was less than 1/8" you could see a little brass, just enough to know the gun was loaded. I do not remember for sure if the striker was cocked, I will call tomorrow to see if anybody knows for sure. I think it was, but I can't be 100% sure.
Because I hold a gun with a firm grip I couldn't get it to happen. When I was told it was a loose grip, I grab the gun in the right hand and used my trigger finger to press in the grip safety. I then started vary how much I press the grip safety in. At best guess I had about 1/3 pressed in when I locked it up.
Every gun I tracked (more then 10 now) had one thing in common. Either a gun rental at a range or being shot by a new semi auto shooter. They are most likely holding the gun to loose and allowing the grip safety to not be fully depressed. I'm trying to "aquire" a cutaway so I can lock that one up.
Thanks for the info on your parts, I may look you up. I have a XD 45 5" that I love. It feels a lot better in my hand than a Glock. The backstrap is very close to a 1911, which is why I like it. As a 1911 shooter it's very hard for me to hold a gun loose. Those guys that needed their grip safety's pinned to shot them could probably lock up a XD. That was never a proper fix in my book.
I could go into more detail but I prefer not to on a public forum. Somebody I'm sure would try to sue me for locking up their gun.If you want to have fun, call around to the local ranges that rent guns and ask if they have locked up a XD. I've been by stopping by a few in my travels.
Warmly,
Greg

Good to see you here Don, welcome! I just talked to the author of this thread and he will be checking back in a little later on hopefully. I'm happy to see you are objective and understand that this is not about dumping on the XD.
Thanks for the heads up. It's been a very long day.

If I had any idea this was going to cause such a up roar I would have just said shoot your XD's with a firm grip. If you play with guns enough you can cause problems with most. NO! I'm not going to name anymore brands that I can do things too. This is one in a very long list.
